Insured international delivery, explained

How we ship fine jewellery to clients worldwide: choosing a carrier, how the charge is calculated in US dollars, insurance, customs, import duty and what to expect on delivery day.

Maison Shifora · · 3 min read

Buying fine jewellery from another country should feel as secure as buying it in person. Every Shifora order is shipped from our atelier in India, fully insured, by a carrier you choose yourself at checkout. Here is how it works, step by step.

You choose the carrier

At checkout, once you enter your country, we show every carrier that delivers there with its price, insurance and estimated transit time. Depending on the destination, the options include:

  • DHL Express, FedEx and UPS for fast, tracked international express delivery
  • Aramex, with particularly strong coverage across the Middle East
  • Malca-Amit, a specialist secure logistics company for jewellery and high-value goods
  • India Post, for domestic deliveries within India

You pick the one that suits you. Some clients prefer the speed of an express courier; others prefer a specialist for a high-value bridal set.

How the charge is calculated

Shipping is quoted in US dollars, like everything on our site, and worked out from three things:

  1. Weight. Your piece plus its box and pouch. Each carrier has a rate for the first 500 g and a step for each further 500 g.
  2. Destination. Each carrier applies a factor for your region.
  3. Value. Insurance is a percentage of your order value, with a minimum.

The total appears at checkout before you pay, with shipping and insurance shown on separate lines. Some carriers offer complimentary delivery above a certain order value; where that applies, you will see it in the quote.

Insured to the last cent

Every parcel is insured for the full value of your order, from our door to yours. In the unlikely event that a parcel is lost or damaged in transit, write to us and we will take it up with the carrier.

Packed for the journey

Your jewellery travels in its presentation box and pouch, inside discreet outer packaging with no branding that hints at what is inside. Certified stones travel with their reports, and every piece includes an invoice in US dollars.

Customs and import duty

Fine jewellery crossing a border is declared to customs. Your invoice states the value in US dollars, which customs uses to assess any import duty and local taxes in your country. These charges vary widely from country to country, and they are set by your government, not by us or the carrier.

In most cases the carrier collects any duty from you on delivery or shortly before, often by an online payment link. A few practical tips:

  • Check your country's rules for jewellery imports if you are unsure; the carrier's website is a good starting point.
  • Keep your phone on. Couriers may contact you to arrange duty payment or confirm delivery.
  • Use a delivery address where someone can sign. High-value parcels require a signature.

Tracking

Once your piece is dispatched, the tracking number appears on your order page and in your account. You can follow your order at any time on our track an order page with your order number and email.

Delivery times

Every Shifora piece is finished by hand. In-stock pieces are prepared and inspected before dispatch; made-to-order pieces, such as our Monaco bridal sets, show their making time on the product page. After dispatch, express carriers typically deliver within a few working days, depending on the destination and customs clearance.

Before your piece leaves the atelier

If you would like to see your piece before it ships, ask for a private video appointment with the atelier. Many clients enjoy seeing their jewellery on the bench, in natural light, before it begins its journey.
